DJMMF Transcendence Show at Paramount Hudson Valley Theater June 18 & 20, 2021 - Creators: Daisy Jopling, Daniel Flannery, Sarah Bracey White

TRANSCENDENCE

Daisy Jopling Band, 1000 Children Virtual Choir & Special Guests
Paramount Hudson Valley Theater — Peekskill, NY

JUNE 18 & 20, 2021 — 7:30 PM EST

Renowned violinist, Daisy Jopling, and Olympic Ceremony creator, Daniel Flannery launch world premiere of Transcendence, the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater’s first live performance in over a year.

This hybrid music/theater experience traces the influences of African American music over the last one hundred years, and is set to a poignant, intimate theater experience of Sarah Bracey White’s memoir “Primary Lessons”.

Named “sublimely gifted musician” by Time Out Magazine, classical/rock violinist Daisy Jopling teams up with award-winning director and visual maestro Daniel Flannery, iconic creator of legendary Olympic Ceremonies, World Stages, TV, Film, Expo & Theme Parks, and acclaimed writer and storyteller Sarah Bracey White in the production of Transcendence.

“There are so many facets that will be coming together culminating in a magical evening aimed at providing musical mentorship to the children of New York and Peekskill…Daisy Jopling’s foundation of mentoring children will continue to change lives through this performance!” says Executive Producer, Gene Fisch, Jr.

The music embraces traditional African songs, spirituals, blues, bebop, jazz, funk and hip hop. Set to an original stage adaptation by Daniel Flannery of Sarah Bracey White’s “Primary Lessons”, we meet Sarah as a precocious five-year-old girl as she is pulled from her middle class life in Philadelphia and planted in Jim Crow, South Carolina. We bear witness to Sarah’s struggle to survive and are uplifted by the depth and clarity of her fiery spirit which sustains her and ultimately illuminates the trajectory of her adult life. The visuals, lighting, sound and stage design are created by the team behind Illuminance, a musical salute to the magic of Bannerman Castle which airs on WMHT / PBS May 28th (10pm) & May 30th (4:30 pm) EST.

The performance features original music composed by the Daisy Jopling Band, Dean Fransen and Angelo Chery, as well as arrangements of Duke Ellington, Art Blakey, Billie Holliday, Papa John Creek, Hugh Masekela and George Walker. Transcendence premieres live Friday, June 18th and Sunday, June 20th at 7:30 PM for an audience of 250 people per evening, with COVID safety measures in place.

Throughout the production, young people are mentored by internationally renowned artists in the fields of production management, composition, songwriting, beatbox/body percussion, dance/choreography, lighting, set design and sound engineering. This experience is often described as life changing—unleashing young people’s creativity and instilling them with focus, confidence, and collaboration skills that serve them on stage, in school, and in their chosen careers.
